Georgene Coccia Gianforcaro, 76, of Archbald, died Sunday. She married Angelo J. Gianforcaro in 1950, and the couple celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary July 1.
Born in Eynon, daughter of Clara Bravi, Eynon, and the late Louis Coccia, she was a graduate of Archbald High School, class of 1947, and Lackawanna Business College. Georgene began her career as a secretary in the Peckville office of the Billig Shoe Co. and later at the Keystone Junior College Bookstore in La Plume. After relocating to West Springfield, Mass., she served as the assistant director at Our Lady of Province Children Center for 10 years, where she received recognition for her work with special-needs children. She retired as the executive assistant of the Sudbury Visiting Nurses Association, in Sudbury, Mass., in 1991. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville.
Georgene was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She provided a nurturing home environment that created a strong sense of family and instilled in her children family tradition and religious values they carried to their own families. Her children and grandchildren were her life. Her loving spirit will be forever with them as well as the memories of her intelligence, sharp wit, endless generosity and wonderfully ornate gingerbread houses. She was an avid reader who enjoyed cooking, interior design, gardening and traveling. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched, as she always had a kind word and deed for everyone who knew her.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of AseraCare Hospice, Clarks Summit, Dr. Rajan Mulloth and staff, Olyphant, and the physicians and staff of the Lahey Clinic, Department of Neurology, Boston.
Also surviving are three sons, Gregory and wife, Denise, Clemson, S.C.; Robert, Raleigh, N.C.; and Mark and wife, Christine, Doylestown, P.A.; a sister, Dolores Coccia; seven grandchildren, Angela, Gregory, Brian, Alexis, Ashlen, Joanna and Anthony.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert.
